Project: Starflight: The Space Shooter

Dev Log #004 — The Game Is Finally Playable

Project: Starflight: The Space Shooter
Version: v0.0.4
Status: Alpha

This is a big one.

For the first time, Starflight is fully playable from Start → Game Over. The core gameplay loop is officially in place, and everything we build next stacks on top of this.

The Asteroid System Is Live

Combat finally has structure.

We’ve added an endless wave system that ramps up the longer you survive. Each wave increases pressure, turning calm space into pure chaos.

Asteroids now break down in stages:

  • Large Asteroids → Split into medium chunks
  • Medium Asteroids → Break into fast-moving fragments
  • Small Debris → Quick, dangerous, and easy to miss

The longer you last, the more crowded things get. It starts controlled… then gets overwhelming fast.

Power-Ups Online

Survival isn’t just about shooting anymore.

We’ve added the first set of power-ups to give players real decision-making in the middle of chaos:

  • Extra Life — One more shot at survival
  • Shield — Temporary protection from hits
  • Slow Motion — Control the chaos when things get tight
  • Weapon Boost — Push your firepower to the limit

These completely change how each run feels.

Controls, Feel, and UI

This update wasn’t just about features—it was about making the game feel right.

  • Custom Player Ship — Smooth, responsive flight
  • Full Controller Support — Keyboard or gamepad, your choice
  • Pause Menu + Audio Settings — Includes saved volume preferences
  • HUD + Scoring System — Real-time feedback and score tracking

Everything is starting to feel like an actual game, not just a prototype.

What’s Next

Now that the foundation is locked in, we’re pushing into deeper gameplay:

  • More power-up types
  • Enemy ship AI
  • Better space environments and backgrounds
  • More visual polish and juice

Thanks for Following the Journey

More updates coming soon.
